The National First Ladies Library & Museum (NFLL&M) announces the upcoming departure of President & CEO Patty Dowd Schmitz, effective July 1, 2025, as she relocates to Colorado to pursue new opportunities.

Since joining NFLL&M, Schmitz has brought renewed energy and national attention to the organization. Her leadership was instrumental in completing the renovation of First Ladies Park, welcoming First Lady descendants such as Jenna Bush Hager, and reimagining the way the Museum tells the stories of America’s First Ladies through innovative exhibits and programming.

“Patty’s impact on the National First Ladies Library & Museum has been transformative,” said Jacqueline Musacchia, Chair of the Board. “Her vision, strategic direction, and heartfelt dedication positioned the organization for a bright and exciting future. We are forever grateful for her leadership.”

In light of this transition, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce that David Lee, current Director of Development & Marketing, will serve as Interim President & CEO. Lee has advanced the museum’s fundraising, outreach, and marketing efforts, playing a key role in elevating the organization both locally and nationally.

“We are incredibly confident in David’s ability to lead the organization through this exciting new chapter,” said Jacqueline Musacchia. “He brings creativity, a deep passion for our mission, and a strong understanding of where we’re headed. The future is in great hands.”

Lee shared, “It is an honor to be entrusted with leading the National First Ladies Library & Museum during this transition. I’m excited for what’s ahead and deeply thankful to the community for its continued support. I look forward to growing meaningful partnerships and continuing to share the extraordinary stories of our nation’s First Ladies in bold and engaging ways.”

The Board congratulates both Patty and David as the organization embraces this moment of celebration, gratitude, and forward momentum.
