Melania Knauss grew up as a model for her clothing designer mother in Slovenia. She is the second First Lady born outside of the United States, the first being Louisa Adams. As First Lady, Melania served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the American Red Cross and as Chairwoman for the American Heart Association. Melania launched her awareness campaign, “Be Best,” to support programs on children’s welfare that focused on three specific issues: well-being, online safety, and combating opioid abuse. She used her @FLOTUS Twitter account to promote information on health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, encouraging parents to remain attentive to the needs of their children.
